The 1st Annual NBA Award Ceremony: Predictions by D3LS

First things first.  How much money did Drake have to pay to host this thing?  Seriously, I get that he’s a multi-platinum award winning artist with millions of fans, but he’s not the only ultra rich, die hard NBA fan out there.  I’m thinking the Raptors’ Drake, the Knicks’ Spike Lee, and the Grizzlies’ JT met in the basement of Madison Square Garden, dressed up in 3 piece suits, top hats, and monocles, where they staged in all out bidding war for the rights to host the first ever ceremony.  I’m sure it was a few million dollars, a couple of bottles, and a lot of sweat before Drake finally went insane enough to win.  Now we get to listen to a shit show Raptors orgy presented by Drake.  I’m calling you out Spike and JT.  How about you love your teams some more, huh?  Just, S. A. D.  Sad.  If I were rich and famous, you bet your ass I would spend all my money to host a Bucks frenzy in front of the whole NBA world.  A little respect goes out to Drake.  He played the game and won.

Now onto the real stuff, aka my predictions for each important award being handed out tonight.  Sorry I’m going to spoil every winner for those who will watch tonight.

KIA NBA Most Valuable Player Award:

Nominees:

Russell Westbrook, PG, Oklahoma City Thunder

James Harden, SG, Houston Rockets

Kawhi Leonard, SF, San Antonio Spurs

Winner:

Russell Westbrook, PG, Oklahoma City Thunder

I know.  I know.  I’m not giving Westbrook the MVP because he averaged a 31.6 point, 10.7 rebound, and 10.4 assist triple double this season.  I’m giving him the MVP because he was the best player on the court for 81 games straight as nobody, I mean nobody could stop him from going out there and just dominating.  It’s one thing to have the stat line, it’s another thing to win the eye test versus every other player on the court for 81 straight games.  People just don’t do that…unless their name is Russell Westbrook.

KIA NBA Rookie of the Year

Nominees:

Malcolm Brogdon, PG, Milwaukee Bucks

Dario Saric, PF, Philadelphia 76ers

Joel Embiid, C, Philadelphia 76ers

Winner:

Malcolm Brogdon, PG, Milwaukee Bucks

I don’t even think this is really a vote.  Embiid is out right away because he wasn’t even unanimous All-Rookie 1st Team.  Also, if you play in less than half your team’s games, then why are you even in the competition (even though you’re easily the most talented).  Brogdon shoots higher percentages in all categories with more minutes and less turnovers and fouls than Saric.  He’s also a 2nd round pick floor general who is way more vital to the team in all categories compared to Saric.  The Bucks absolutely need Brogdon to be a great team in the future.  Saric’s hardly even mention anymore now that Fultz and Simmons will be back next year.

KIA NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award

Nominees:

Eric Gordon, SG, Houston Rockets

Andre Iguodala, SF, Golden State Warriors

Lou Williams, PG, Houston Rockets

Winner:

Andre Iguodala, SF, Golden State Warriors

To me, the sixth man is the first guy of the bench who would mesh instantly with the starters at any given time, place, and situation within the game and season.  Iggy did just that.  Kevin Durant went down midseason, and Iggy was there to step right into the starting lineup, while helping the Warriors go on a long win streak without their best player.  (Yeah, I said it).  Plus, how can two players from the same team both be 6th men.  Fuck that.

KIA NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award

Nominees:

Kawhi Leonard, SF, San Antonio Spurs

Draymond Green, PF, Golden State Warriors

Rudy Gobert, C, Utah Jazz

Winner:

Draymond Green, PF, Golden State Warriors

Voter fatigue.  Same reason why LeBron isn’t in the MVP voting.  Yeah, LeBron had Love and Kyrie, but Leonard has Aldridge, Gasol, and Pop.  The Spurs are always good, LeBron is the Cavs.  I don’t understand that MVP thing, but oh well.  Draymond finally gets one.  Good job.

I’m not going to waste your time, plus it’s almost time for the show to start, with coach, most improved, and GM awards because Warriors, Giannis, Warriors.  There I gave it to you anyway.  Were almost to NBA Free Agency.  This show is a nice little take off path for the brain to get excited for all the crazy shit that will go down starting July 1st.  Enjoy.
